102nd Precinct officers don body cameras

The 102nd Precinct Deputy Inspector Deodat Urprasad announced Tuesday that members of the precinct’s police force will wear body cameras during their shifts. As part of a pilot program with the 105th Precinct, officers on the 4 p.m. to midnight shift wear the body cameras throughout their entire tour. Officers will start recording at the start of their shift and the cameras will continuously document everything. At the end of their shift, the officer docks the footage on a server.
“It all helps with the prosecution of crime,” Urprasad said.
Eventually, every precinct in the city will have body cameras.
He further stated that the area covered by the 102nd Precinct had 230 less victims than last year, a 21% percent decrease in crime rate for the year thus far.
